My decision to visit Iceland was immediate. Shortly after booking my ticket, the volcano in Eyjafjallajokull started errupting and causing a number of flight cancellations and delays around many European airports. It was with mixed emotions that I continued to persuade myself that this trip was actually going to happen.
Well, the departure day came and the news on the volcano was good. It had started to settle down and flights were actually operating all around Europe once again. At no time was the volcanic ash impacting flights from Toronto to Reykjavik, so I checked with Pearson International prior to leaving my home. All lights were green and I started to believe that this trip was about to become a reality.
I arrived at the aiport and was checked-in effortlessly. Boarded the aircraft and 5 hours 10 minutes later the flight was touching down at Keflavik International, Iceland. Though a red eye, it was a smooth and pleasant flight. On exit from the airport, I was greeted my fellow Torontonian friends who had arrived in Iceland one day prior. They had already picked up the rented car and came to the airport to transport me to our lodging. Except, this rental was manual driven and no one of us was in favor of this type of technology. We all agreed to have an automatic SUV and that we did for a few extra Euros.
Instead of the usaal accommodation at a hotel, we rented a house for the 6 nights. It was a great home and the owner was just as warm and accommodating to our many questions, etc. Thanks to Micheal for this one.
Though we did not have a designated driver perse, I did most of the driving and we covered alot of ground. In the attached photos, one can see some very scenic sights in Iceland.
The Icleandic people are beautiful, helpful and quite warm. Though their mother tongue is Icelandic (no surprises there) yet the majority of the population speak very clean English, among other European languages.
My time in Iceland was well enjoyed. So much to see and do, so little time to accomplish it all. I hope I did justice of my explanation with the attached photos, thanks to my photographer - Cuthbert.
Enjoy!!
